Have you been hurt on the job?

"You must have a disabling injury which "arises out of" your job. The injury does not need to actually occur at work as long as it was caused by your work. For example, if you have a heart attack caused by your work, even if the heart attack happened at home, you may be entitled to worker's compensation.

You must be out of work for a minimum of five (5) days before you can collect worker's compensation...."[Massachusetts law]  Read more in our Worker's Compensation Primer.

Need to protect your home from creditors?

"A homestead exemption [in Massachusetts] means that your house is exempt from certain creditors so long as you, your spouse or your minor children wish to live in it. It is a great means of protecting your home from unforeseen disaster—car accidents where your insurance isn’t enough, catastrophic medical bills, or just financial disaster.

Effective November 2, 2000 the Homestead Exemption in Massachusetts has increased from $100,000.00 to $300,000.00 and the elderly and disabled persons homestead exemption has increased from $200,000.00 to $300,000.00."  Read more in our Summer 2000 Newsletter
